Licensing & source availability
open·broadcast is open-core. Our first-party encoder, receiver and bonding-router software is licensed under the GNU Affero General Public License, version 3 or (at your option) any later version (AGPL-3.0-or-later). The hosted Service runs the same code you can self-host — the encoder ⇄ receiver contract is identical.
Written offer of source
Because the Service is offered over a network, the AGPL’s network-use provision applies. The complete, corresponding source code for the version running the Service is published and available to any user, at no charge, from the repositories below. Each release is tagged; the commit deployed to the Service corresponds to a tagged release in these repositories.
- open-broadcast-receiver — the copy-only fan-out relay receiver
- open-broadcast-encoder — the bonded contribution encoder
- luci-app-rist2rist — the OpenWrt bonding-bridge package
If you cannot obtain the source from the above, or need the exact revision deployed at a given time, contact [source contact email] and we will provide it.
Third-party components
The software incorporates third-party open-source components under their own licences (for example GStreamer under LGPL, and librist). Those licences and notices are included in the respective repositories. The rist2rist tool patch is offered upstream under BSD-2-Clause. Optional NDI support requires the NDI runtime, which users install themselves under NewTek/Vizrt’s terms — it is not redistributed by us.
Your freedom to leave
Nothing about the hosted Service locks you in: you can run the identical stack on your own VPS at any time. See the self-hosting guide.
